Piet Hein Eek

Piet Hein Eek was born in 1967 in Holland. He studied at the Design Academy Eindhoven, and it is thanks to his graduation project “Scrapwood Creations” that he was noticed by the design industry. Basing his business around the idea of reused materials, he established his own studio in 1992 in Eindhoven, which now also serves as a factory space, showroom, gallery, and restaurant.

Piet Hein Eek is a Dutch designer, well known for his respect for materials and appreciation of craftsmanship. His Design Academy Eindhoven’s graduation project “Scrapwood Creations” was a reaction against perfect, mass-produced furniture, and enabled him to establish his own studio in 1992. He is now known for being one of Europe’s most prominent designers, and his work has been exhibited at venues such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Milan Furniture Fair in Italy, and Cibone, a design store in Tokyo, Japan. Many of his collections are available at SCP, including As-Thick-As-Wide and Crisis.
