Earlier this year, we documented our reupholstery service from beginning to end for a customer who has owned his Woodgate sofa for over 20 years.

We work with a broad network of trusted fabric and leather suppliers, including Bute, Kvadrat, Designers Guild, Sorensen, Camira, Maharam, Romo and more.
If you prefer, you’re welcome to supply your own fabric, provided it meets UK fire regulations (including cigarette and match tests) and is certified by the supplier and is approved by our specialist upholstery factory.
For this project, Michael selected Memory 2 by Patricia Urquiola for Kvadrat.
Once the fabric had been selected, we scheduled the work at our specialist upholstery factory in Norfolk.
We then arranged collection from Michael’s home, before being loaded onto our van and set on its journey to our factory, ready for the next stage of its transformation.
Once the sofa arrives at our Norfolk factory, it is carefully stripped back by our skilled team. Layers of old fabric and upholstery are removed to reveal the internal structure beneath.
This stage allows us to fully assess the condition of the frame, springs, and padding, ensuring any necessary repairs can be made before reupholstery begins.
Every piece is treated individually, preserving as much of the original materials as possible while preparing it for a new life.
Our upholstery and sewing teams then began work simultaneously to prepare the piece for its next chapter.
As this sofa was originally made over two decades ago, it predates our transition to using exclusively natural upholstery materials. Rather than replacing everything unnecessarily, our approach was to retain and reuse as much of the original interior as possible, only replacing materials where needed with like-for-like alternatives to minimise waste and preserve the integrity of the piece.
The upholstery team carefully inspected the frame, fillings, and internal structure, carrying out repairs where required, while the sewing department prepared Michael’s chosen fabric, Memory 2 by Patricia Urquiola for Kvadrat. The fabric was measured, cut, and sewn by hand before the new covers were expertly fitted to the sofa and cushions.
After final quality checks, the sofa was wrapped and prepared for delivery, ready to return home for many more years of use.
When ready, it is carefully prepared for delivery and returned to Michael’s home, completing its transformation.
The result is a beautifully restored piece, ready to be enjoyed for many more years to come.
