Puffer sofa and armchair

By Philippe Malouin

A further updated version of the sofa and armchair design are being presented in Milan. Malouin captured the home-bound spirit of successive lockdowns with this generously proportioned design.

Puffer is part of the SCP 2022 Collection. It’s a design that has developed slowly over the last two years, complicated to make, but now beautifully resolved. The sofa version is made up of joinable feather pocket sections and is resplendently large, offering a kind of comfort that suggests spending hours and hours in it.

"It's a TV sofa, something to spend hours and hours in. The design of the Puffer is super related to lockdown, and what people want from a sofa now. That is probably the reason why it is that big. How do you sit on a sofa? How long do you stay there? What position do you want to sit in? The design of the sofa has been about considering these things. The sofa is all about spending more time at home."

Puffer is made from and FSC solid beech and plywood frame, with 65% natural and sustainable upholstery materials.

"We decided to make it in parts. The initial jacket idea was a good idea, but was harder to put on than we imagined. By making it in sections, it also allows for it to be specified with a range of different fabrics."

The sofa can be specified in different sizes.

The first version of the Puffer, which was inspired by the ubiquitous puffer jacket, has also been updated in how it is constructed, and comes with an ottoman, for extra comfort.

Puffer is an impressively comfortable design that shows a deep understanding of the possibilities of traditional upholstery making.
