Ewelina Reclining armchair

A reclining armchair for a new generation that eschews the idea of formality.
A brand new design for the 2022 Collection, Ewelina is a generously proportioned design with an electric powered mechanism that articulates the chair into a reclining position.
"I had a few ideas, but none of them seemed quite right. We created it through prototyping instead, which is like we did with Balzac. We worked closely with the factory, and we just kind of built it, and solved the problems as we went, and worked out aesthetics to do with their covering techniques and the materials they have. There are material limitations now as SCP are doing everything with natural materials and very little oil-based materials (foam). There is very little foam in there."

The chair is made from an FSC European beech and plywood frame, with 95% natural and sustainable upholstery materials.
"It is a hard typology to deal with aesthetically, that movement, that change. It was really challenging to get my head round, but now I think we have got something that I am really pleased with. The constrictions that the type creates, the mechanism - which dictates the proportions, the movement - and the aesthetics restrictions that creates, and the construction itself - which can only be done in a certain way, they all feed into it."

Ewelina has a motorised mechanism to change the articulation of the chair, two buttons are discreetly placed down the side of the seat.
"It's quite generous in proportions. It's like Business Class, I think it has turned out to be quite an interesting thing. The arm is a mirror, in that it is the same, each side just reversed."

Ewelina is a chair for relaxing in, a design that is willing to challenge the perceptions of its typology.
