Camp armchair

By Philippe Malouin

A refined angular design that evokes the spirit of military camping gear and classic modernist furniture designs.

A brand new design for SCP and part of the 2022 Collection, Camp takes inspiration from military camping gear from the  1940s and 50s. It cleverly utilises tensile cotton fabric to support the upholstered sections, providing an enveloping kind of comfort.

Camp armchairs By Philippe Malouin

"It's a simple armchair that has a webbed seat frame that you just drop in. We designed the frame to be really simple to make. The frame itself doesn't have any reinforcement, it's just built like a cage, then we dress the cage with a jacket, which is the cotton that goes around it, and supports the whole thing. Then we have four cushions. It's based on military camp beds, that's why we are calling it the camp armchair, it's like the military camp beds where the corner's would have that leather trimming."

Philippe Malouin

Camp is made from an FSC solid ash frame, 100% cotton jacket, with 68% natural and sustainable upholstery materials.

"I didn't really think of the specific user or age group, more just tried to design something that was cosy and comfortable. It's more sober than some of the stuff I have done, so will perhaps sit in more places."

Camp can be specified in either leather or fabric for the cushions, but the jacket remains a hard-wearing cotton.
