In October 2019, SCP hosted an exhibition of Bethan Laura Wood’s new Tongue teaset for German ceramics brand Rosenthal at their Pimlico Road showroom.
Born in 1983, Bethan Laura Wood studied product design at the Royal College of Art in London. Since she graduated in 2009, she has been harnessing her passion for colour, detail and materials to create expressive and exceptionally creative designs in her studio. Alongside working closely with Nilufar Gallery for limited edition and one-off works, she has been commissioned by a variety of international partners to create works and installations.⠀
Inspired by the combination of the lid and handle on Walter Gropius’ TAC teapot, Bethan has created a limited-edition tea set that is both striking and expressive in homage to the iconic original. A distinctive slender handle, the rim of which protrudes over the lid, and a spout featuring a sunken relief inform the linear body of the pot. The teapot lid, with its profiled upturned shape, is in dialogue with the handle. The design marries linear architectural forms with the playful frivolity of the 1970s, creating wonderfully captivating pieces.
