Born from experimentation with vintage lighting components and a fascination with materials, Apparatus is a design firm at the vanguard of the New York design scene.
Founded by Creative Director Gabriel Hendifar and Producer Jeremy Anderson, the studio creates lighting with a design language which, as founder Anderson describes, “fuses modern form with hand-worn materials, evoking both the future and the past”.
The Apparatus collection of lighting is launching exclusively at SCP this March. It comprises six of their designs: Arrow, Cloud, Cylinder, Dyad, Lariat and Triad. Featuring wall sconces, pendant lights and chandeliers, each design is bold, expressive and beautifully made.
Using a combination of components crafted from raw materials including aged brass, apparel grade leather and blown glass, each individual fixture is created on site at their Manhattan design studio. This allows the choice of metal, leather and finish to be custom tailored to each design.
Through a high degree of hand finishing, Apparatus seek to create individual and idiosyncratic details in every one of their products. The materials themselves are key to driving the designs forward, and in creating an aesthetic they call “the perfect imperfect”. The result is a collection of pieces that are restrained, quietly balanced and somehow exposed.
A well-established brand in the United States, Apparatus has become synonymous with distinguished products that are distillations of simple, pragmatic ideas.
The Apparatus lighting collection is available to order through SCP Contracts and store from 31 March 2017.
