Join Reiko Kaneko at SCP East on 1st December for a masterclass in decorating ceramics. Here, from 6pm – 8pm, you’ll cut out pressed flora and fauna prints and apply them to the ceramicist’s handmade crockery in monochrome and sepia. Your piece will then be taken to Kaneko’s studio in Stoke-on-Trent – the heart of the English potteries – for firing before being ready for collection at SCP East.
Plates and mugs decorated in the workshop can be purchased from £11.
Reiko’s workshop is now fully-booked. Stay tuned for a fuzzy felt workshop with Donna Wilson on 17th December and a shoppable show with toy maker, Ron Fuller.
SCP has a long-standing relationship with St-Martins trained Kaneko, having collaborated with the British-Japanese designer in 2013 to launch the Adderley Works pendant light collection for SCP – and most recently, her first foray into furniture design, The Orlando lounge chair.
Born in the UK but having spent much of her childhood in Japan, Kaneko unconsciously introduces a Japanese spirit to the traditional, British craft of bone china ceramics. Each design she makes is created in her studio in Stoke-on-Trent, the heart of the English potteries.
With more space for kilns and staff, the studio has the ability to experiment with glazes, colour bodies and decorations. By being firmly rooted to the ceramic cluster of Stoke-on-Trent, Kaneko is able to tap into local networks of contacts and over 200 years’ worth of experience and knowledge in fine bone china production.
