London Design Festival 2016

For this year’s London Design Festival, SCP East presents six shows: a display of work by Piet Hein Eek, the SCP 2016 Collection, an exhibition of Mexican craft, new contemporary lighting from NYC-based Roll & Hill, a totem of pouffes by Donna Wilson and a collection of tapestries by Hannah Waldron.

The events will run throughout the London Design Festival, 17th-25th September, with a late night on the 20th September as part of the Shoreditch Design Triangle.

SCP will also be launching a concession store at the Ace Hotel, Shoreditch.

Piet Hein Eek & SCP Forever
Join us for a talk held at SCP East with Deyan Sudjic, Director of the Design Museum, and Piet Hein Eek on Tuesday 20th from 3pm – 4pm. Here, they will discuss the concept of forever in regard to past icons and what makes a future icon.

Coinciding with this will be an exhibition presenting a range of new 2016 designs alongside products from the Piet Hein Eek archive. There will be a blend of furniture, lighting and accessories including the classic Scrapwood collection, the Equally Thick table and chair plus the One-Mould ceramic light.

SCP 2016 Collection
SCP will be presenting the new versions of Reiko Kaneko’s fine bone china Nami range in the form of chandeliers. Alongside this, the latest designs for 2016 and production versions of pieces from Matthew Hilton, Hannah Waldron, Lucy Kurrein, Alex Hellum, Reiko Kaneko and Faudet Harrison will also be launched

Crafts from Mexico
The show takes its cue from the craftspeople and products of Oaxaca – Mexico’s southern cultural capital known for its mix of ancient tradition and thriving contemporary art scene. Having visited Oaxaca in May, SCP’s founder and director, Sheridan Coakley sought out a host of Mexican makers, explored the area’s bustling markets and collaborated with its craftspeople. The result is a collection of traditional and contemporary homeware products.

Hannah Waldron
A collection of one-off tapestries hand-woven by artist Hannah Waldron. The three-part collection, named Triennale, documents abstract details glimpsed from the window of a Japanese bullet train during a recent trip to the Eastern country. The tapestries complement the Tabi collection, which was created for SCP and inspired by the same trip.

These will be produced by SCP, upholstered with a special combination of patterns created exclusively for LDF. Each special edition pouffe will be in knitted wool made in Scotland and available to purchase.

Roll & Hill
A presentation of new lighting from Roll & Hill, a lighting manufacturer based in New York City. The company is at the forefront of the American contemporary design movement, working with American and international designers, both emerging and established.

SCP x Ace Hotel
SCP has teamed up with the Ace Hotel to host a concession store in the hotel’s Shoreditch shop, which will launch during the London Design Festival. The look and feel of the space has been inspired by SCP’s flagship store in Curtain Road and will stock an eclectic range of design-led homeware, gift ideas, jewellery and stationary.

Shoreditch Design Triangle
Now in its eighth year, the Shoreditch Design Triangle, coordinated by SCP, brings together designers, stores, galleries, studios, cafés, bars, brands and one-off events for a week of design-led festivities from 17th-25th September 2016, with the Ace Hotel providing a hub for the district.

SCP will be hosting a late night event on the 20th of September alongside many other venues within the Shoreditch Design Triangle district.
