Design in the Olympics
Are the olympics shaping up to be a fantastic opportunity for Britain to showcase its culture and strengths, or is everything surrounding the games “second rate”?
With less than 100 days to the start of the London 2012 Olympic Games, Janet Street-Porter has taken to the online pages of the Daily Mail to blast the event and the designs surrounding it, which she says is in spite of some top design talent in Britain. She says “We’ve top-ranking furniture and industrial designers such as Matthew Hilton, Tom Dixon and Jasper Morrison, but these Olympics scream second rate. I know Stella McCartney has designed the kit for team GB, but that’s just a candle in the wind.”
